Ningbo is a renowned city for foreign trade in China, ranking among the top five cities for foreign trade exports nationwide, just after Shenzhen, Shanghai, Suzhou, and Dongguan. Its foreign trade imports and exports rank ninth among the 36 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities across China.

In 2023, the total foreign trade volume reached 1.28 trillion yuan, accounting for 3.1% of the national total. Ningbo, located in Zhejiang Province in East China, is a hub for manufacturing and foreign trade.

In 2022, the city's e-commerce transaction volume reached 1.6 trillion yuan, with cross-border e-commerce transactions totaling 860 billion yuan, marking a 30% year-on-year increase. In 2021, Ningbo became the first city in China to exceed 100 billion yuan in cumulative cross-border retail imports. By 2023, Ningbo's cross-border e-commerce import and export volume had reached 205.4 billion yuan.
